Graphic Design Exercise
The prompt of this project was to create an eye-catching poster based on the words 'Design is ____'. We were tasked to fill in the blank with what we thought design is. This project was challenging due to its breadth, the only requirements were that we needed the poster to say 'Design is' somewhere.
For my solution, I decided to go with Design is a Heart Song. For me, I've been into art and design from a young age. I was introduced early on and I never could see myself in another profession. Heart song was a way to describe this feeling, because when I design I am at my happiest. To represent this concept, I wanted to create a heart character. This is meant to represent a designer with the essentials: our laptop and a cup of coffee (or tea if you prefer!). This is inspired by retro character design, yet I wanted to modernize it and make it more playful. I stuck mostly to a complimentary color palette to keep the overall design simple yet cohesive. Type setting was the hardest for me, I didn't want the type just horizontally aligned where it feels out of place and not incorporated. I decided to round it to the curvature of my heart character and use some bubbly text to keep with the playful energy of the poster.
